Who's going to Long Beach? 2-4 to 2-6-2010?

I should make it Thursday or Friday.

I got a free program in Coin World magazine and it might be fun.

I'm on the Board so I figured I should show up, right?

I'll won't make it but found this article (from that link that hernando posted, Coin Update News) about a gold shipwreck display that will be there. I wish I could go just to see this display.

"There also will be one of the 13 recovered octagonal $50 gold pieces produced by the United States Assay Office of San Francisco"

I may be there Friday. I'd like to see the shipwreck gold, it will remind me of what I lost in my accident at sea.:bear_cry:

COUPONS print them....

I have the audio the picture book and the NON-FICTON

"SHIP of GOLD" book...

Sadly, it's in the GROOVE because I have written a couple of Historical Novels about Los Angeles in 1853/1857.

So it's like a stinkin' magnet!

Don't know if I want to make that commute either. Just bought 2 GAE's online and plus my other dry powder just got wet from this storm that rolled through in the last hour.

Sorry for the :36_1_30: (:thumb.aspx:)

What I really meant was :5_1_120:

I tootle over early on Thursday to miss the traffic home on Friday.

That CENTRAL AMERICAN "Ship of GOLD 1857" exhibit will really bring them in this year. Last time was 5 years ago - I believe.

HS

P.S.= I'll bring you a novel. I'd give one to Master_Ho HO HO :504:
If he'd show UP "early" on Thursday.

As old John Wayne would say, "That'll be the DAY!" (The Searchers)

Tell him to stop by BOOTH 731 - I'll leave him a "surprise so he could dig for it...:headsand:" GOD be willing.

Ho goes to bed "early" (like 4am).........so early Thursday is HIGHLY unlikely!!!

But a small group here thinks we should go - so Friday early afternoon looks like the best time for us!

And I really want to see this exhibit.......

I am more like Dracula - I tend to stick to nighttime and leave the sun to others! *lol*

I have certainly read about it over the years - truly excited to see it.........

Its official - I will be there Saturday (with wife, friends but no killer-parrot!)........and so looking forward to the exhibit...........

And while I really do not have any dry powder, I do have a couple of bullion gold coins I might exchange if something interesting shows up!!! (Consider that a hint, booth 731 *w*)

It's been about 5 years since they did the CENTRAL AMERICA SHIP OF TONS OF GOLD EXHIBIT - so the place could be a minor ZOO on Saturday.

I'll be-BOP over Thursday A.M. early like when they open for the REGULAR visitors that is. :36_1_34: It's that 90 miles back HOME :36_1_34: that really bothers me. :signs14:

Interesting about that way to exchange bullion - grand idea. I was thinking about taking 10 bars around in one hand and ten bars around in the other.

About 68 1/2 pounds per arm. I'll l@@K like Arnie when I'm in the place.

The YOUNG guy not the OLD one - :504:

i looked at the show program, they have the exhibit of some shipwreck with a bunch of gold. "Ship of Gold" they call it.

but the gold is hidden behind a glass window !

what's wrong, don't they trust people ? :elefant:

the USS Central America - is that the same boat that was written about in Gary Kinder's book, "Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea ?"

a great book about the recovery effort, building custom submarines to get the gold, plus playing cat and mouse games with other treasure hunters to not "show their cards".

when they drag the ocean bottom hunting for a wreck (using video), it means a small flotilla of boats, which attracts attention. "oh no, we're not doing anything. that $1.5 billion of '49er gold ? it's just a pre-Internet rumor."

I have the audio book, the non-fiction book, and the large picture book, plus a small MOMENTO from part of the gold; a $50 gold piece dated 1855 and weighs about 2.5 ounces. Kind of a fun little thing...

Sorry I missed seeing you - the FLU with both of us (me and the DW) messed us up Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

I finally got out today for a couple of miles.

Like they say, there's a better day coming tomorrow...

Glad you did well...

And great to meet you too, and see your display (only lunars I saw all day). I said in my email to you - I truly appreciate the time you took with me and my little group of gawkers, especially in a convention setting. No doubt, with you being local, we will meet again!!
